Spanish sci-fi and fantasy writer and editor, Cristina Jurado, will be giving a presentation (in Spanish) on Arabic science fiction during EuroCon 2016

The European Convention of Science Fiction, Fantasy and Horror taking place between November 4th to the 6th in Barcelona (Spain). Her intriguing talk title is “La ciencia ficción en los países árabes: retos, características y nombres propios” (Science fiction in Arab countries: challenges, characteristics and names). Jurado will provide insights about the current situation of genre literature in Arabic. She said:

“This presentation intents to fill a gap in Spanish fandom. Today, the genre is open to diversity from different communities and cultures, but still science fiction in Arabic is a very unknown territory for Westerners. I hope attendees will get to learn about a type of literature that is gaining a lot of attention in the Arab world, like Ahmed Saadawi who won the 2014 International Prize for Arabic Fiction for Frankenstein in Baghdad, an unprecedented achievement.”

The event is scheduled for Friday November 4th at 3:30 pm (Spain’s time) and can be followed live from the following link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5QS4fjp7tPw
